Classroom Structure and Curriculum
Just A
to Z Academy's curriculum provides structure for our classrooms' daily activities. Through such age-appropriate activities,
our teachers offer learning experiences that enhance each child's emotional, social, physical and cognitive development. Careful
consideration is given to classroom activities, as well as to the materials used in each activity and the means in which each
activity is presented.
At Just A to Z Academy, our teachers provide a learning environment that encourages children
to interact successfully and to reach their fullest potential. The safe and nurturing feelings our children experience give
them the self-esteem they need to learn, grow and flourish today and well into the future.
Just A to Z Academy's curriculum
is theme based. A new unit is explored each week or month, along with a shape, two colors and a music type; we also offer
cultural enrichment activities on a regular basis. Lesson plans are developed among teachers in the each classroom or in teams,
and plans are posted for sharing with parents, other staff and visitors.

The
Pumpkin Patch (6 weeks to 12 months of age): At Just A to Z Academy, we recognize that every baby is unique.
For this reason, our infant classroom offers an incredibly flexible schedule - allowing each baby to maintain his or her individual
rhythms for feeding, sleeping and playing - mirroring their at home patterns.
We also recognize that no matter
the age, each child is ready to learn, so we design specific plans for learning for each child. Plans include daily activities
involving reading, music and physical stimulation, among other things. We offer age-appropriate toys, games and music, a nurturing
environment, personal care, independent play and exploration, and encouragement to learn, grow and discover.
The Romper Room (1 year to 2 years of age): Our Rompers are experiencing many firsts,
including first separation from their primary care givers, first time in a highly interactive social setting. Eating at a
height level table and napping on a mat . For this reason, our Rompers teachers are trained to help each child
handle a variety of such milestones.
Children in our Rompers Room have access to toys, materials and experiences
that are appropriate for their developmental needs. Sturdy toys with minimal pieces allow children to "dump" and
"destroy," to developmentally appropriate behaviors. Books are sturdy and plenty of toys are available to lessen
opportunities for conflict.
The Movers Class (2 to 3 years of age): Our
Movers dedicate significant amounts of time to learning their letters, numbers and colors. In addition, there is an emphasis
on art, music, science, and indoor and outdoor games and activities. Whether singing songs or working on a group project,
our teachers also help our Movers learn the importance of good manners and being a good friend and playmate.
The Leaders (3 to 5 years of age - Must be potty trained):
Our Leaders are
being prepared for kindergarten with activities that focus on skills like following directions, completing tasks and making
good decisions and choices. Academics are administered in meaningful and fun ways.
In our Leaders classroom, the
day is divided into free play periods, structured group activities, outside play, meals and rest time. Each day, children
have opportunities to explore learning stations throughout the classroom, to interact with both peers and adults, to listen
to stories, to share and to learn. Students also regularly participate in special activities, such as cooking projects, art
activities, field trips, community projects, and music and movement activities. Parent Teacher Organization Just A to Z
Academy's Parent Teacher Organization, which meets quarterly, is responsible for guiding the development of the school's policies
and procedures, and for contributing to the overall success of the school. All parents are invited to join the PTO or to attend
PTO meetings. Parents interested in joining Just A to Z Academy's PTO should contact Sabrina Tate. Bylaws, agendas and meeting
minutes are available in the school's main office.
